Flasher Unit Conversion

Note - These instructions are for negative earth (ground) cars.

I solved the problem of slow or non flashing indicators by fitting a modern electronic flasher unit. It was a basic three terminal one as fitted to the majority of modern cars. First find the unit, it's fitted into a bracket under the dash just to the right of the steering column on right hand drive cars (under the glove box on left hand drive cars), pull out the unit and disconnect the wires, unscrew the bracket from the bulkhead, this screw can be used for the earth. On the new unit connect the green wire to the terminal marked 15, 49, X, B or +, connect the green and brown wire to the terminal marked 49a, L, C or Com, connect the terminal marked 31 or - to earth, make up a short piece of wire with a female spade connector on one end and an earth loop on the other for this. Not only does this give properly working indicators but you can also hear it so you know if you have left your indicators on. Credit for this tip goes to Brown & Cook, MG Specialists of Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

This web site is a combined effort and all contributions have been supplied by the people named on this site. All the bits are got together, chewed up, fiddled with and eventually published by Dai Pen-Mawr. It is copyright all of us and thieving bits off it isn't very nice and we would get all upset. Unless of course you put a great big eye catching link back to here next to the bits you nicked!
