This picture shows the car just after we started work on it.
We have removed various panels so that we can get a good look at all the problems and see
exactly what needs to be done. The large blocks of wood have since been replaced with a
proper set of jack stands, while the car was definitely secure enough to work underneath,
it wasn't high enough to crawl under it comfortably.
|
This shows the drivers side sill, the outer sill (rocker
panel for you foreign types) has been partly removed and you can see some rust damage in
the castle rail. This is actually a very minor problem and it can be patched easily
enough. |
The floor pan on the drivers side also has some holes in it
but for a thirty-four year old car it isn't bad at all. New floor pans came with the car
and this again is a fairly easy fix. |
This picture shows the passenger side castle rail, again with
the outer sill removed. The damage here is a little more serious but again, not enough to
warrant replacement of the entire panel. It can be cut back to good metal and a repair
section made up from steel plate. |
Unfortunately, when we were taking the car off the trailer we
had a small accident. The car slipped sideways off the ramps and rolled into the house
wall. The only damage though, as you can see here, was a small dent in the rear wing below
the light unit. The light unit itself and the bumper were not fitted so they escaped
damage. A little careful panel beating will restore this to its former glory. This
picture also shows the sadly dented state of the rear valance, we have bought a new one
and the old will be cut out and replaced.

This picture shows what is left of the passenger side floor
pan, the previous owner had started to remove it before he gave up on the restoration. We
have a little of the old metal left to remove around the edges and above the crossmembers
but this is almost ready to weld the new floor in. |
This is the picture that MG gurus will love! This style of
door with the pull handles, rather than the later push button type, was deleted in 1965
and the early cars are sought after by lovers of the Marque. |
