This picture of El Presidente was
taken at the Colombian Peace Conference in 1993. It was said at
the time that major steps were made to the advancement of world peace at the conference
but an inside source later revealed that there were some initial problems. The delegates
spent the first half of the conference in a disagreement over the colour of the cloth
covering the conference table. When this issue was finally settled it was realised
that the final choice of colour clashed terribly with the curtains and a further debate
ensued over this. It was eventually decided that better progress could be made if all the
delegates retired to the hotel bar and continued the discussions there. Unfortunately this
degenerated into a drinking contest, the only outcome of this was the
realisation that El Presidente should have drunk wine rather than Stella Artois. Although
he apologised profusely to Fidel Castro it was felt the two of them should probably
never meet at another conference.
El Presidente is currently working incognito at Cambridge University,
his department has it's own web site which can be seen here.
